Oosaravelli Movie Review - by Chaitanya Kumar Vummethala

This should be a certain hit to join the tollywood hits league of 2011 (due to the seasonal release).

With timing being most appropriate, much hyped-prestigious project (made with a pool of recognized and talented team) for a big budget movie release, Oosaravelli has got a very good scope to break the box-office records. However, for various reasons this movie is for sure not going to rock the box-office collections in the coming weeks. Surender Reddy must have prepared this movie for Ravi Teja who is generally capable of managing such scripts with his usual style of acting. Oosaravelli is definitely not a tailor made movie for NTR Jr.

Having said that NTR Jr., has did his best in Oosaravalli, but to meet the expectations on the movie, both the Director & Script Writer should have done a bit more to do the justice. While DSP and Rasool Ellore, excelled in their respective departments other technicians did their bit as per the requirement.

Story: Somehow, I felt that Vakkantham Vamsi is either did not put his complete attention on preparing the final script of Oosaravelli or is not passionate about script writing. By selecting a title like this, the script writer should be very careful in handling the lead characterization’s role in it. One can clearly find many flaws and mistakes in the story.

Screenplay & Direction: After his super hit movie KICK, Surender Reddy has came up with a different story line and subject this time (Oosaravelli) to prove his calibre by once again Directing NTR Jr., (for the second time, Ashok being the first movie on their combination, which was just an average flick). Title of the movie, has created a lot of curiosity in movie-critics and at the same time has built huge expectations within NTR fans and regular audience. The subject chosen by him was damn good but it has its own set of challenges in narrating the same onscreen. Actually lot more corrections were required while directing few scenes and placing them, such as avoiding few unnecessary scenes at the peak levels and focusing more on elevating hero characterization etc., On the whole, Surender Reddy has come out with better colours this time, having NTR Jr. as his hero.

Dialogues: Koratala Shiva, has tried with few punch dialogues but failed to blend them with situations such as “Current Teega Kooda Chooddaniki Sannaga Naa Laagey Vuntundi...” dialogue with a Mafia / Underworld Don - Do you think he will listen to all such bull shit dialogues (Don)? While other casual dialogues in the movie were apt! Overall his work is significant.

Music: Devi Sri Prasad, rocked all the way! DSP is one of the chief contributors for the success of the Movie. Whether it is a sensitive sound mixing in the song "Sri Anjaneyam...", (or) making melodious music magic in "Nenante Naaku Chalaaney Ishtam..." song, (or) composing a fast beat like in "Dhaandiya Song.." (to insist NTR Jr. to rock on the floor with his memorizing steps) (or) a special melodious music mix in "Nihaarika..." Song - Over and above his brilliant Re-Recording work and the Background Score - clearly depicts his dedication towards making few of the finest music compositions. Devi Sri Prasad, therefore becomes an asset to this movie and Ooseravelli is one of his best works in the recent past!

Editing: Gautham Raju did a fabulous job in shaping up the Visual Songs but was pale in scissoring few useless scenes in the movie! Could do much more better work.

Cinematography: Rasool Ellore, did an amazing job in this movie. He proved his mettle once again with Oosaravelli by capturing natural beauties such as huge mountains and scenery, much more beautifully while shooting for songs and key scenes. All the visuals in this movie, especially picturization of songs were mind blowing, really worth watching the movie on BIG SCREEN! While, Milk Beauty Tamanna was shown as a gorgeous lady on all her costumes and make ups, NTR Jr. will be soon seen as a handsome hero in a variety of posters with different stills with this movie -  credit goes to none other than Rasool Ellore. I hope he should get an award for his best work for Oosaravelli!

Art Director, S Ravinder has done a decent job. Many big sets were made for this movie and every set has its own beauty in it. Every detail was specific and has its importance. Sets in interval fight were amazing and made a lot of impact on the scene.

Stunts / Action by Duo Ram - Laxman, shown in a grand way in every fight.  Though the fight sequences with Mafia gangs were imaginary, they were executed without missing beauty. Climax Fight using Chair as an asset was done extra-ordinarily, for sure action episodes are another asset to the movie!

Artists Performances:
Cast: NTR Jr., Tamanna, Prakash Raj, Shyam, Tanikella Bharani, Murali Sharma, Vidut Jamwal, Rahman, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Raghu Babu, Ajay, MS Narayana, Payal Ghosh, Adhvik Mahajan, GV, Ahuti Prasad, Benarjee, Duvvasi Mohan & Raghu Karumanchi

NTR was excellent on every frame in the movie – would like to mention about an expression of his, in the song “Nenante Naaku Chaalaaney Ishtam...” was really mind blowing – proving his caliber once again. Tamanna is really a lucky girl to win these kinds of roles; she excelled all the way in the movie – especially in the flash back episode. Her stunning beauty mixed with top performance is a real feast for the movie lovers.  Payal was good at performance and apt as Chitra, a friend role to Harika (Tamanna).

MS Narayana, Tanikella Bharini, Kick Shyam and many others were confined to limited scenes but they did justice to their roles. One noted point in Oosaravelli is that, other than the two ladies Tamanna and Payal, there is no other single significant female character in the movie. While, Jaya Prakash Reddy, Raghu Babu and his team succeeded in entertaining the audience with a pinch of comedy – Kick Shyam, Ahuti Prasad, Benarjee, Ajay etc., were literally wasted with confined roles and characterizations. Even Prakash Raj was not properly utilized and  remained as a generic telugu cinema Don character (Director failed to show him as a powerful villain).

Over all analysis: If the 1st half of the movie is divided into two parts, then the 2nd half of the 1st half is too good!  Similarly the 1st half of the 2nd half of the movie is at the top notch! Didn’t you understand? Then you will not even understand the 1st half of the move – if one can understand the above line quickly, then they will enjoy Oosaravelli. What I mean by this is that, the Director of the movie simply tried twisting few simple points trying for a different style of screenplay. While maintaining suspense theme to thrill the audience, Surender Reddy failed in elevating the scene when required and the way he emphasized the story in the second half (which is the heart of the story) – having put some efforts in moulding the second half, Oosaravelli would have shown few different colours to audience and would certainly impress them.

With this subject, the final output of the movie can be made much better than the way it has actually come out. Nevertheless Oosaravelli is onetime watchable movie but need to keenly observe each and every detail to understand the movie thoroughly (of course one can find many mistakes and flaws while concentrating on the movie).  For sure, there is no problem for Mahesh Babu's Dookudu's Collections with this flick!

My rating for Oosaravelli is 3/5
