Aadhaar Card is an acceptable Address Proof for Passport

Proof of Address - for applying passport
You are required to submit atleast 1 of the documents listed below.
1 Water Bill
2 Telephone (landline or post paid mobile bill)
3 Electricity bill
4 One year statement (with transactions)/ Passbook of running bank account (Scheduled Commercial bank excluding Regional Rural banks and local area banks)
5 Income Tax Assessment Order
6 Election Commission Photo ID card
7 Proof of Gas Connection
8 Certificate from Employer of reputed companies on letter head
9 Spouse's passport copy (First and last page including family details), (provided the applicant's present address matches the address mentioned in the spouses passport)
10 Applicant's current and valid ration card
11 Parent's passport copy, in case of minors(First and last page)
12 Aadhaar Card
Note (For Document No. 1, 2, and 3) : Atleast 2 bills are required - One bill should of be of last year and the other bill of current year.
Note (For Document No. 8) : Only public limited companies can give address proof on company letter head along with seal. Computerised print-outs shall not be entertained.
Note (For Document No. 10) : If any applicant submits only ration card as proof of address, it should be accompanied by one more proof of address out of the given categories.

    Let there be a law made by the government of India protecting the personal information taken from the people from being illegally misused and also that only verified government personnel who have been authorised will have access to the information legally, else let it be scrapped.

    Hello Chaitanya,

    We are staying at X-address since six 5 years, and recently(7 months before) we shifted to Y-address. We have Voter/Ration etc for X-address only. However My father changed address in Gas bills to Y-address. So, Is it sufficient to provide this month Gas bill(current Y-address)copy and one year before Gas bill(X-address) copy as proof of present address??
    Here I'm mentioning both X and Y addresses in my application as present address.

    I have an account in SBH since one year plus, I'll try to change the address to Y-address, However I haven't used this account for any transaction. will this statement works??

    My permanent address is Z-address.(I'll mention this in application as permanent address, and I don't want this address to be printed on passport anyway) Its not required to show any proof of permanent address right??

      If the Gas bill has only your father's name then it is not a valid address proof for you to apply for passport.

      Your SBH account passbook (with updated transactions) should work as a valid address proof provided if you request the bank authorities to update your address and also print all the transactions from the last one year (at least there should be a couple of transactions in it - so do the same)

      If you don't want your permanent address to be printed on your passport, then don't even mention about it in the application.

      Yes, Gas bill has only my father name. [ How children name will also be printed, Passport authorities should have accept :( ]

      Now, I won't mention my permanent address at all., provided I'll select option that permanent address is same as present address.

      SBH, there are only one to two transactions and X-address(presently, my parents are staying at Y-address) is printed on it. so, I can't use it. I need a passport as early as possible(50 days).

      I've HDFC bank which is opened in Mangalore, Karnataka and I used the same in Mumbai, Maharashtra for two years and now since 3 months in Bangalore, Karnataka. I'll update my current address(Guntur, Andhra Pradesh) and will take cover letter, and quote but transactions are in different places. Will this work as address proof? (I have only this with my name)

      Yes, you are correct - you should just mention about your current address and show it as your permanent address too.

      You should try with your HDFC bank statement, this should work. But make sure that they mention only your current address on it and nothing else. It must also say that you are operating this account for more than 1 year.

    I have an appoint on 27th Feb for fresh passport. I am married but don't have marriage certificate and also not possible for me get certificate in a small time. Which affidavit I have to submit for that? Is it sufficient if I sumbit "Annexure D" affidavit? Or, I have to submit another affidavit in absence of Marriage certificate.
    Please confirm.

      Dear Nisith,

      Annexure D is generally for lady applicant but can be used by any one, in place of marriage certificate. But a joint photograph (wife and husband) must be affixed in the left bottom corner of the affidavit.

      Nothing else is required, Annexure D should work. In case if they question for the marriage certificate, then request them to accept it as you don't have much time to obtain other certificates.

      Note:- You should also affix your joint photo on this affidavit/annexure (which should be printed on Rs. 20/- stamp paper.

    i will be applying for passport in some days,(not a minor)
    but the problem has already started.
    proof of address is my problem..
    well i have adhar card(all correct), election card(all details wrong),ration card(name wrong), i have bank account statment(but its from a scheduled co-operative bank) will it work??
    i know PAN, driving licence is not listed... but can i give those?

      Yes! that is correct, but see to it that both the documents have the same address.

      Hi I'm first time asker...but my problem is serious.I have only one proper proof for applying for passport .ie.,bank statement (one year old)and other proofs are messed up I'm a b.tech student and college id wouldnt work I think and I need to apply for passport as quickly as possible....so plz help me sir!!

      Firstly I am really sorry for the delayed reply, I was out of city on a busy business trip.

      Just you need to have your educational certificates and the latest bank statement along with a covering letter issued by bank authorities (if it a scheduled commercial bank / private bank) or just an updated passbook with last one year transactions in it (if your account is with nationalized bank)

      If you want to mention that you are a student, then manage to get your study certificate from your college.

      That's all you need to apply for a passport!

    I need to get my wife's and Kid's passport on priority , She already got Voter id , Pan card , Adhaar card , bank account , however all are not 1 year old.

    the issue is even I don't have any proof for current address since we moved just 1.5 years back.

    we applied online , however they refused by saying your id's are not 1 year old

    Could you please suggest , is there any other way of getting passport done.

      If you have a valid passport, then by enclosing it with your marriage certificate your wife can easily get her passport.

      If you don't have your marriage certificate, then an affidavit (annexure d) would also serve the purpose.

    I have a running bank account with current address which is around 3 years old , Will this work with marriage certificate.

      Yes, above two are sufficient for re-issue of your passport.

      But you should be present at PSK for applying for re-issue.

I just wanted to share you my incident at PSK Bangalore, I have aadhar card with me, but when i furnished that at the Counter, he asked me to produce a supporting document too.. I have been Using Vodafone Postapid Connection from last 3 years, and it contains the same addresse( My Present One). will that work as a supporting Document..

    sir, I have an adhaar card only but the notice on site says that it is accepted in conjunction with any other prescribed documents.
    So it means one more proof has to be attached. I have Ration Card (my father's) with my name on it will it work for proof of address.
    And what else could i do. I've applied for voter ID but it will take at least two months, I have driving license and PAN card but they are not accepted. What to do..:-(

      For obtaining Aadhaar, you might have produced a few documentary proofs - those are sufficient. For example, as you have Ration Card - that should be fine. But in addition to it if you have anything else, that would be great.

      The main intention of accepting any document as a valid address proof is to make sure that the applicant is a resident of India at one particular address at least from the last one year.

      But in case of e-aadhaar, one can obtain it by producing instant documentary proofs with an address just in a couple of months. This is the reason behind your bad experience!

      Note:- Also if you want to visit PSK without appointment, you must fill the form (either online or offline) and inform the security at PSK that you have come for tatkaal/re-issue.

      It should be at least one year old - but you can try anyway (another supporting proof document is mandatory in case if you are willing to use Aadhaar)

    @ ashu.. Well, Ashu. Aadhar card is accepted as POA and POI, but along with that you need to submit one more supporting document as a POA,which can be anything mentioned above.

    I am willing to apply for a passport,but the problem is with the address proof.We were staying in X-place for more than 10 yrs but 2 yrs back we shifted to Y -Place.All my documents related to address proof(Voter ID,Bank A/C,Aadhar Card,Driving License) are having Address that of X-Place.I have no address proof on Y-Place.

      Request for Change of Address with your Bank and then take one year bank statement along with a covering letter to use it as a valid address proof document.

      Take all of those along with you, Aadhaar Card should be fine if you enclose one more supporting document. As you have both SBH account and RC issued by MRO - they are fine.

      Apart from these, you should also carry your educational certificates along with the DOB Certificate to the PSK.

      Note: If you are married, your marriage certificate would easily help you in including your wife's name in it.

      If the date of issue of your aadhaar card is at least one year old then yes, these are good. You must produce your SSC or above qualification certificate to get ECNR.

      Running SBI Bank account is just an optional and not mandatory!

      If your Aadhaar card / HP Gas Connection Papers are one year old with correct address printed on them, then they are valid address proof documents.

    i just wanted to know that whether eaadhar card will be accepted as address proof ,i have all the other documents annexure I,F .MCD birth certificate, PAN CARD, Driving License,SC/ST certificate,10th 12th pass certificate and marksheets .

      If your eAadhaar card is one year old then with a support document enclosed with it, you can use it as a valid address proof for applying fresh passport.

      Note:- Caste Certificate is not at all required!!

      If you have received your aadhaar card just with this supporting document, then it should suffice the purpose. But I personally suggest you to carry something which has your name in it - may be your pan card etc.,

      Absolutely yes, provided you must obtain both one year statement along with a covering letter from the bank authorities. They may mention that these are for the purpose of applying passport.

    I downloaded e-aadhar card from the eaadhar website.
    But at the PSK they said original aadhar is only valid for appliying passport.
    Through post i didn't get it till now.
    Is e-aadhar card not valid for any other purpose.

      It is an interim aadhaar card - just follow-up with your postman - with the acknowledgement details - you will find the details from the official website @ http://eaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/eDetails.aspx

      Note:- You can once again check with the passport authority for an alternate option. My suggestion is get the one year bank statement along with a covering letter, if you have one!

    Hello sir

    I have a query regarding address proof. I graduated in May 2012 from delhi univ where i was staying in a hostel for the past 4 years. right now i'm working in noida in a private firm. Since i have not been staying at my present address for more than a year im providing proof for both present and previous addresses. I'm applying under tatkaal scheme and have the following documents:

    1. Birth certificate
    2. Airtel landline bill (I actually get my bills on email so i got them signed and stamped from the airtel office)
    3. 10th passing certificate
    4. Annexure I
    5. Annexure F (stating both my current address and the previous and duration of stay)
    6. ID card of the person who has provided me Annexure F.
    7. College bonafide certificate
    8. Address proof of hostel from college signed by the warden
    9. Provisional Degree
    10. Photocopy of my previous college ID.
    11. Proof of employment from the company + Company ID card.

    My concerns are for the landline bill. will you be so kind as to clarify if they'll work, if not how should i proceed. I also possess an HDFC bank account which i opened in July 12 but the address mentioned in the account has just been changed to my residential address earlier it was my office address. Can i provide the bank statement for the proof ( with the cover letter and stamp)

      Your application - case is very clear and you have got all the required documents!!

      Yes, your telephone bill should be acceptable as per the official document adviser. "Telephone (landline or post paid mobile bill)"

      However, if you can manage to obtain your bank statement along with a covering letter with your present address mentioned on it, then that would be an addition.

    I do not have marriage certificate. In this case what is my other option? Is there any affidavite which can work instead of marriage certificate??

      Try to obtain your marriage certificate once again. Otherwise the alternate option would be Annexure A (but this is only for lady illiterates).

    hello sir,
    I'm a student applying under tatkal scheme for re-issue of passport for change in address as my family relocated.

    I want to know if the following documents with current address are sufficient:
    1.aadhaar card
    2.bank statement of last one year from pnb (without covering letter)
    3.annexure f
    4.annexure i
    5.current student i card


    i have lived at the new address for 3 years but dont have any other documents with my name on it. I do have proof of gas connection in my father's name - will this be required or valid?

    My wife went to passport office today to apply for a fresh passport with after marriage name but they didnt accept the ID proofs saying that they need a bank statement with after marriage name in it. I just want to know can she use my passport copy ( my passport dosent have my wife name in it )If she doesnt want to change her surname in her bank statement ?

      If your wife's name is not printed on your passport and if you do not possess your marriage certificate then your passport copy would not serve the purpose.

      All she need to do is, get her name updated in her bank account and obtain your marriage certificate to print your name on her new passport.

      Note: She can actually become a joint account holder with that of your account by enclosing the same marriage certificate, and further use the bank account passbook or one year statement along with a covering letter as valid address proof document.

    Sir ,
    My passport expired in december 2012 , I went for renewal but got rejected because i forgot my 10th marksheet. They also told me i need address proof so i applied for aadhar card . I got message that my aadhard no. is generated , so i checked in and downloaded e addhar card but i still didn't received it by post . I went to aadhar card office , they said downloaded and by post are same. Please tell me can i apply for renewal by using downloaded aadhar card ??? This is an emergency , i have been trying to passport helpline no. but they are not picking up . Please tell me downloaded aadhar card will be valid and what else documents will i need for renewal ?? Reply fast . My date of birth is - 11/10/1991

      You need the below documents for re-issue :-

      Old Passport (mandatory)

      Birth Certificate (optional),

      SSC or above educational certificate(s) (Only if you do not have ECNR stamped on your old passport),

      Address Proof (Only if your present address is different from that of the address mentioned on your passport)

      Aadhaar should be at least one year old, to be a valid proof. Otherwise, if you have a bank account from the last one year with the same address as your present address in your bank records, then the bank statement along with covering letter issued by your bank authorities would be a valid address proof (provided the bank should be scheduled commercial bank such as ICICI/Axis etc.,).

      Note:- In case if you have account with any nationalized bank, then just the updated passbook with last one year transactions printed on it would be sufficient as a valid address proof.

    I am a student staying in pune but my native place is solapur so i want to issue the passport on my permanent address of solapur. As address proof I have SBI account on my permanent address(solapur) but the problem is all the transactions in it are done from pune. So will it work????...Please reply sir,

      That is fine, but during police verification you have to be in Solapur (any how you will receive a phone call from your police verification officer at least one or two days prior, so you can plan accordingly).

    I want apply new passport for my wife in Tatkal Scheme.
    I have added my wife's name in my passport. But in PSK they won't accept my passport as a proof. I have added my wife as Joint Holder in my ICICI account. Is this enough as a proof along with Annexure F or 3 address documents are required? Please clarify me.

      If your passport has the same address as your present address, then by enclosing your marriage certificate - then your wife can use it as her valid address proof.

      Alternatively, you can use your ICICI bank statement along with the covering letter as the valid address proof for her.

      Apart from 1 Address Proof, your wife should possess:
      Annexure F (Verification Certificate)
      Annexure I
      DOB Certificate
      SSC or above (for ECNR) to apply through tatkaal process.

    My question is do it really need valid address proof to add my wife name in my passport.

      You can actually use any of your parent's bank account as a valid address proof document, provided if that account is at least one year old and you are a joint account holder with such an account.

      Note:- address as per the bank records must exactly match with that of your present address, if not make that change by raising a request - before obtaining a statement and covering letter (or) updated passbook.

      You have to stick with the same DOB as mentioned in your old passport.

    his date of birth is 1979 in passport.he is un-educated.

      Don't submit your PAN and DL, they are not mandatory.

      Note:- For tatkaal, VC (Annexure F) and Annexure I are mandatory.
