Harish is mastered in showcasing the actual strength of the hero matching the audience pulse to the fullest.
When Harish Shankar was first approached by the remake rights holder and the hero of the movie Power Star Pawan Kalyan (who promised him to approach him after winning confidence on the 2 movie director who actually failed to impress him with his last script), Harish might have had mixed thoughts running in his mind on making a remake of a Bollywood Blockbuster again as a Tollywood Blockbuster (Gabbar Singh movie being just his 3rd flick of his career immediately after a hit movie). But he was proved to be the most confident and talent directors by changing the script suitable to the telugu nativity by adding appropriate punch dialogues at apt situations.
By choosing best cast and crew and extracting 100% from them for Gabbar Singh, Director - Harish Shankar has already proved that he is a visionary captain of the project with a full focus on registering a blockbuster hit with the help of his master - Pawan Kalyan and his ideas on making a movie, of course with the support of the entire crew. Screenplay: Harish Shankar, Ramesh Reddy & Vegesna Satish, these three gentlemen / technicians have filled life to the movie. It is usually Screenplay which is lagging in Pawan Kalyan's movies, but they have taken enough care of not missing the theme at any single second of the movie while continuing the flow at every point. Excellent narration with brilliant timing is the key success for the unanimous positive talk all over and the major credit after Pawan Kalyan it should be given to this trio.
Music: Devi Sri Prasad, the master musician is another asset of the movie who gave brilliant tracks along with superb back ground score for the movie. Gabbar Singh music album has 6 tracks and DSP has put utmost care and concentration in preparing brilliant tracks to make every song a chart-buster! Apart from songs, the music director also ensured that each and every sound bit should stand unique while elevating the movie and heroism as required.
Editing: Gowtam Raju, the seasoned editor has done excellent job in shaping up the final product as the best movie to beat all the existing records (by assisting the director in his department). Without his support probably, the movie might not got U/A Certification from Censor Board.
The experienced editor's suggestions on few suitable cuts in the movie must have surely helped them in winning this grade of certification, which will certainly help the makers in pulling all set of audiences (especially families) to theatres in the holiday season (Summer). Cinematography: Jayanan Vincent's experience and wide knowledge on the technology and equipment has helped the movie in reaching heights at very early stages. This "Ace Lens Man" has show cased both the lead pair amazingly beautiful, as it is very important for him to capture scenes involving Pawan Kalyan in a much powerful way, while the hero should look like an handsome young hero on every frame as equally as Shruti Hassan. This is because of the huge demand from the fan base of Power Star (who are eagerly waiting for a blockbuster from their favourite hero since long time) and the veteran cinematographer has justified his role with 100% determination.
Shruti Hassan is lucky enough to have this seasoned technician for her movie, who captured few beautiful pictures and scenes of her (above one is an apt example) which will certainly help her in winning few really big projects. Shruti should be thankful to Mr. Vincent and of course to entire Gabbar Singh team for not only choosing her in this movie but also to show case her extremely beautiful (which is crucial for her to sustain in film industry).
Art: Kadali Brahma has erected few huge sets in the movie for both songs and scenes beautifully. This is the most important department for a big ticket movie like Gabbar Singh which will help in attracting the repeat audience. In the makers perspective it is crucial as it involves a lot of money. For any producer who wants to spend money wisely and in a rich manner, Kadali Brahma is an apt choice - Great Job by this man!
Pawan Kalyan is popularly known as Power Star and in this movie he acted like more than a power star (thanks to Harish for everything). Starting from the first frame, whether it may be a dance movement, dialogue delivery, action episode, comedy episode, in a romantic scene or in an emotional scene, the lead actor crossed the limits of performance and exceeded everyone's expectations. It is an open secret that Pawan Kalyan has high voltage energy levels mixed with enormous fan following and he is the highest crowd puller in tollywood but with Gabbar Singh he proved that no one can compete with him. One of the finest performances by the actor in this movie is helping the industry in generating huge revenues and running towards the record breaking collections.
Shruti Hassan was struggling hard with no registered hit right from her film debut. Even after performing her best, she could not come out of her bad luck for so many years now. But this time Shruti has shared the screen with the Power Star, and her brilliant performance as a village girl in a limited screen presence was highly appreciated by all the audience. Specially her dance steps in Pilla Song was mind blowing. Her costumes matched the role perfectly and was looking stunningly beautiful in many scenes and songs.
Gabbar Singh being the movie made only on and for Pawan Kalyan and fans, there was a little scope for Suhasini Maniratnam, Nagineedu & Ajay to perform upto their calibre but definitely did justice to their respective roles (as per the story in movie).
Kota Srinivasa Rao did a decent job with his indecent role in the movie, excellent performance as heroine's father.
Both Ali & Brahmanandam, with their ease of acting skills have excelled all the way but in front of power star their performance was not registered properly.
Abhimanyu Singh & Tanikella Bharani both as antagonists have satisfied the director's expectations but frankly speaking they have worked as extended comedians in the movie (of course as per the director's demand) rather dangerous villains.
Gayatri Rao, Rao Ramesh, Giridhar, Fish Venkat and supporting actors - have all added value to the movie with their respective roles. Special mention required for two sets of actors - they are those who performed as constables to Gabbar Singh and assistants to the Siddhappa Naidu, all of them have excelled with their natural and imitative performances.
Malaika Arora Khan sizzled in a short but sweet song and added great value to the movie.
Overall Analysis:
There is not even a single scene in this movie to discuss about the First Half & Second Half - every frame of Gabbar Singh is all about Pawan Kalyan and his Die Hard Fan Harish Shankar's Madness about the Power Star. Director - Harish Shankar has handled the movie extremely well by designing a unique characterization for Pawan Kalyan, Preparing a packet of punch dialogues, Filling 100% entertainment elements on every frame of the movie by planning and extracting required performances from every artist and technician, as per his clear vision on the project.
As to describe his "Thikka", the titles shows us as "Maatalu-Maarpulu-Darsakathwam - Harish Shankar" for the first time in the history of Telugu Cinema. In fact it is a very difficult task for any young director to remake an already super hit bollywood movie (Dabangg) by changing the original with appropriate changes suitable for telugu audience while matching the mannerisms of super star (Pawan Kalyan). But Harish's zeal and enthusiasm to direct Pawan Kalyan and making it a blockbuster made him work harder to prepare excellent script, dialogues, while planning each and every expression of all the characters in the movie perfect to his imaginations.
Harish took a proper care in designing the lead character in such a way that, the entire movie revolves only around the hero and his typical style of policing. Director utilized Pawan Kalyan's energy level up to the maximum extent and utilized his fan base properly in making the final output as a flawless wholesome entertainer while missing few logics.
Stunts: Ram-Lakshman have done appreciable job, Pawan Kalyan himself being a black belt holder and a stunt master it has become very easy for the fight masters to direct the hero as per the need and plan. The fights and action episodes in Gabbar Singh are very rich and amazingly wonderful. Thanks to these Brothers!
Producer: Bandla Ganesh as he always claims that he is the biggest fan and worshiper of Pawan Kalyan, never compromised at any stage. Unlike other movies, this producer was selected by Hero and Director of the movie (instead of producer selecting hero and director) but there was no ego clashes between him and any technician - that can be clearly seen on the below picture and the actual quality of output.
