Investigators are questioning accused Hassan Bin Omer Yafai, who attacked with a knife and Mohammed Bin Saleh Wahlan who shot Mr Owaisi. While one of the attackers, Ibrahim, died, two other accused, Abdullah Bin Younus Yafai and Awad Bin Younus Yafai, are being treated at the Yasodha Hospital. Four other suspects, Esa Yafai, Yaheya Yafai, Saif Yafai and Haneef Yafai are absconding.
Police are also verifying the claims of a few accused who said that the attack was a spur-of-the-moment act and not pre-planned. Meanwhile, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, MIM MP and brother of Mr Akbaruddin Owaisi, has asked the city police commissioner, Mr A.K. Khan to appoint the CCS ACP, Mr Maddipati Srinivas, as investigating official in the case. Mr Srinivas earlier worked with the Task Force as Inspector of Police.
However, the home department has asked Crime Investigation Department sleuths to follow up the case side by side with the CCS. The home minister, Ms P. Sabita Indra Reddy, said, “The case has been handed over to the Central Crime Station. Special teams have been formed to probe the case. Three DCPs have been appointed to supervise the investigation.”
The Task Force DCP, Mr V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, and the CCS DCP, Mr J. Satyanarayana, are among two DCPs who are investigating the case. The A.P. Police has decided to reopen the history-sheet against Pahelwan in the wake of the latest incident. It is learnt that Mr Asaduddin has told top functionaries of the government that he had gone to the residence of Pahelwan but he didn’t come out for more than half an hour and kept him waiting.
However, sources close to Pahelwan said that he had tried to patch up with the Owaisi family but in vain.
